Florensa or Sanita clogs: what's the difference?

Are you looking for new medical clogs and are you torn between Florensa and Sanita? It's understandable, the two brands have a lot in common. In this article, we explain where those similarities come from, what the differences are, and which clog is best for you.

Sanita: a household name in Dutch healthcare

Sanita Footwear A/S was founded in 1907 in Denmark and has been known for over a century for the craftsmanship of its handmade clogs. In the Netherlands, Sanita clogs have been the standard in hospitals, nursing homes, and other healthcare institutions for generations. The combination of an anatomical footbed, a flexible PU sole, and cleanable leather made the Sanita clog the most widely worn medical clog in the Netherlands.

Studio Sanita was for many years the largest specialist and seller of Sanita clogs in the Netherlands, with the widest range and close cooperation with the Danish parent brand. Studio Sanita is now part of Shaped4.

Florensa: developed by the people behind Studio Sanita

Florensa is a new brand, but with a familiar background. Florensa clogs were developed in collaboration with the Studio Sanita team, the specialists who have sold and thoroughly know Sanita clogs in the Netherlands for years. All the knowledge gained over those years about what a good medical clog should be; the fit, the sole construction, the material, has been incorporated into the development of Florensa.

The result is a clog that healthcare professionals who have worn Sanita for years will immediately recognize: the same familiar fit, the same comfort, the same anatomical support. Now produced in Shaped4's own factory in Portugal, by more than 50 specialized professionals who work daily on footwear for healthcare. The big advantage of this? No intermediary traders. If you order your Florensa medical clogs from Shaped4.nl, the clogs come directly from our own factory to you. This allows for the most competitive price.

What are the similarities between Sanita and Florensa?

Those accustomed to Sanita clogs will quickly feel at home in Florensa. The similarities are clear:

  • Anatomically shaped footbed for correct posture and less fatigue during long shifts.
  • Flexible shock-absorbing PU sole that reduces strain on feet, knees, and back.
  • Leather with a PU coating that is easy to clean with a damp cloth or alcohol-based disinfectant.
  • Available as slip-on clogs with an open heel and as clog shoes with a closed heel.
  • Wide choice of colors and prints for every workplace and personal style.

What are the differences?

There are also some important differences that you should consider when choosing between Sanita clogs and Florensa clogs:

  • Certification: Florensa clogs are officially MDR-certified as Medical Devices (EU 2017/745) and comply with the EN ISO 20347:2022 standard for occupational footwear. This is an official European certification that demonstrates that the clog has been tested and approved for use in medical environments. Sanita clogs are EU-classified but not always MDR-certified as Medical Devices.
  • Availability: Sanita clogs are currently very limited in availability in the Netherlands. The range is small and delivery times are uncertain. The Florensa collection, on the other hand, is fully available in sizes 36 to 48, in dozens of colors and prints, with direct delivery from Shaped4.
  • Production: Florensa clogs are handmade in Shaped4's own factory in Portugal. Sanita clogs are produced in factories in Poland.
  • Assortment: The Florensa collection offers a broader color palette and more print options than the current limited Sanita assortment, from classic colors to cheerful prints that suit any healthcare environment.

Where can you still buy Sanita clogs?

Sanita clogs are now very limited in availability in the Netherlands. Studio Sanita, for years the largest Sanita specialist in the Netherlands, is now part of Shaped4 and no longer sells Sanita clogs. At other retailers, the assortment is limited and not all sizes and colors are available.

For those looking for the familiar fit and comfort of Sanita clogs, but want to be assured of availability and a wide range, Florensa is the logical alternative.

Which clog is right for you?

Are you used to Sanita clogs and want to switch? Then you will immediately feel at home in Florensa. The fit and comfort are familiar, the MDR certification is stronger, and the assortment is wide enough to find a suitable model for every personality and every workplace.
