Most webshops that sell shoes are resellers. They buy from manufacturers, put the product in their webshop, and hope it's good enough. At Shaped4, things are different. We are the manufacturer, designer, and seller of every brand you find with us. From Florensa medical clogs to Neskrid work and safety shoes and 4Allbrands insoles: everything is developed in the Netherlands and produced in our own factory in Portugal, where over 50 specialists work daily on professional footwear.
That's not a marketing story. That's how we work. And in this article, we explain why we chose this model and what it specifically means for the quality of the shoes you wear.
Our own factory: what does that mean exactly?
When we say "our own factory," we mean it literally. The factory in Portugal is entirely owned by Shaped4. They are our machines, our materials, our people. There is no external producer who also produces for ten other brands and makes choices that we cannot control.
Specifically, this means that every pair of shoes you order from Shaped4, from design to finished product, is made under our own management. The Florensa medical clogs are produced in the same factory as the Neskrid safety shoes and work shoes. Each brand has its own specifications, materials, and certification requirements, but the production line, quality control, and expertise are shared.

From design in the Netherlands to production in Portugal
The process always starts in the Netherlands. Here, designs are made, material choices are determined, and certification requirements are established. Whether it's an MDR-certified medical clog or an S3 safety shoe, the specifications are drawn up in the Netherlands based on the European standards the product must meet.
These specifications then go to our factory in Portugal, where over 50 specialists physically make the product. All Shaped4 shoes are made in Portugal, a country with a long tradition in producing quality footwear. Our craftsmen master both traditional techniques and modern production methods. The result is a product that meets the strictest European standards while also offering the comfort and finish you expect from manually controlled craftsmanship.
What does in-house production mean for quality?
The biggest advantage of in-house production is control. Complete control over every part of the process. That sounds abstract, but in practice, it means the following.
Materials are not determined by an external manufacturer who chooses the cheapest option, but by our own team based on what works best for the final product. When Florensa clogs need a PU sole that is shock-absorbing, silent, and flexible, we choose the exact material that meets those requirements. No compromises because a manufacturer has a stock that "also works."
Quality control takes place at every step of the process, not just at the end. If a material does not meet requirements, it is rejected before it gets into the product. For resellers who purchase from external manufacturers, quality control only begins when the product arrives in the warehouse, and by then, it is too late to change anything about the production process.
Certification is perhaps the most important advantage. Florensa medical clogs are officially MDR-certified as Medical Devices (EU 2017/745). Neskrid safety shoes comply with the EN ISO 20345 standard. 4Allbrands insoles are certified for use in work footwear without loss of norm. These certifications require the entire production process to be controllable and repeatable. In-house production makes this possible. Outsourcing makes it vulnerable.
Three brands, one factory, one quality standard
Shaped4 has consciously opted for multiple specialized brands instead of one brand trying to be everything.
• Florensa is our brand for medical clogs, developed in collaboration with the Studio Sanita team. MDR-certified and available in dozens of colors and prints for healthcare professionals. Rated 9.3 by over 4,700 healthcare professionals.
• Neskrid has been a specialist in professional footwear since 1924. Work and safety shoes in five width sizes, plus hiking boots for the active outdoor person. Neskrid is globally renowned for its expertise in fit and durability. Looking for the best work or safety shoes? Neskrid combines nearly a century of expertise with modern certification requirements.
• 4Allbrands insoles were developed by Neskrid with one goal: certified semi-orthopedic insoles that fit all brands of work footwear without loss of norm. Available in three arch variants for flat feet, normal arches, and high arches.
Each brand has its own identity and target group, but they share the same factory, the same expertise, and the same unconditional quality standard.
Why Portugal?
Portugal is one of the leading countries in Europe for the production of quality footwear. The country has a centuries-old tradition in shoe manufacturing and boasts a large number of skilled craftsmen with specialized knowledge. Many of the best European shoe brands have their shoes made in Portugal, and there's a reason for that: the combination of craftsmanship, modern production facilities, and a culture where quality takes precedence over speed.
Our choice for Portugal is therefore no coincidence. It allows us to produce at a top European level, with short lines of communication to our head office in the Netherlands. This means quick communication, regular quality visits, and the flexibility to adapt quickly when needed. Shoes made in Portugal are internationally renowned for their quality, and we confirm that reputation daily in our own factory.

How long do shoes from in-house production last?
A question we often get. The honest answer is: it depends on usage. But what in-house production does guarantee is that the lifespan is not limited by material choices an external manufacturer made to cut costs.
With Florensa medical clogs, you see this reflected in the PU sole that retains its resilience after hundreds of shifts. With Neskrid safety shoes, it's in the microfiber upper that can withstand daily intensive use. And with 4Allbrands insoles, it's in the material that doesn't lose its support after a few months.

What does this mean for you as a customer?
As a Shaped4 customer, you don't buy through an intermediary or importer. You buy directly from the manufacturer. This has three concrete advantages.
Firstly, you know exactly where your product comes from. Not "somewhere in Asia" or "via a European distributor," but from our own factory in Portugal, made by skilled craftsmen whom we know and manage.
Secondly, you pay a fair price. Because no intermediary, importer, or distributor profits, you can buy products of European factory quality from us at a direct price.
Thirdly, you receive personal service. Do you have a question about a product's composition, certification, or a specific fit? We can answer that question directly because we designed and made the product ourselves. A reseller would have to pass that question on to their supplier and hope for an answer.
More than a webshop
Shaped4 is more than a webshop. We are a manufacturer who delivers our own products directly to the end-user. This model gives us the freedom to create products that exactly meet our customers' needs, without compromises that arise when multiple parties profit.
Whether you are a healthcare professional who relies daily on Florensa medical clogs, a professional who depends on Neskrid safety shoes that last all day, or are looking for good work shoes that are truly comfortable to walk in: at Shaped4, you know that the product was made in our own factory with the care and attention it deserves.
