What makes a clog suitable for hospitals?

Not every clog that looks professional is suitable for hospital use. Hospital clogs must meet a number of specific requirements directly related to the working conditions on the hospital floor.

Firstly, a certified anti-slip sole. Hospital floors are regularly wet due to cleaning, spilled liquids, or wet shoes from visitors. A certified anti-slip sole, tested on both dry and wet surfaces, is not a luxury but a necessity. Florensa clogs comply with the EN ISO 20347:2022 standard, which sets specific requirements for the sole's slip resistance.

Secondly, material that is resistant to disinfectants. In hospitals, clogs must be disinfected regularly, sometimes multiple times per shift. The leather with PU coating of Florensa clogs repels liquids and is resistant to alcohol-based disinfectants without damaging the material.

Thirdly, an anatomical footbed that provides support during prolonged standing and walking. Hospital employees walk an average of ten to fifteen kilometers per shift. Fourthly, MDR certification. For hospitals working with a Statement of Requirements for medical footwear, MDR certification as a Medical Device is often a strict requirement. Florensa meets this requirement as standard.

Hospital clogs per department

Not every department in the hospital has the same footwear requirements. The choice of the right type of clog depends on the work environment, the risks in the department, and personal preference.

In the operating room, maximum hygiene is required. Choose a clog with a smooth PU coating that is easy to disinfect and preferably a closed heel for extra protection. The Florensa clog shoe is the most chosen option here: fully closed, anti-slip, and quick to clean between operations. OR clogs must also be antistatic to prevent static discharge in the operating environment.

In the nursing ward, a slip-on clog with an open heel is the most chosen option. Quick to put on and take off, airy and comfortable during long shifts of eight to twelve hours. The open heel provides extra ventilation and makes it possible to quickly switch between departments.

In the emergency department, a sturdy clog shoe with a closed heel and certified anti-slip sole is the wisest choice. In the ED, you need to be able to move quickly and stand firmly, even on wet floors and in unpredictable situations.

In the outpatient clinic or reception, there is more freedom of choice. Here, clogs in color or with a print are a popular option to add a personal touch to workwear while still wearing professional footwear.
